BOSTON - BostonChron -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named the 2023 Gold Engineering Excellence Award winners and is accepting entries for the 2024 awards now through October 3, 2023.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are an annual celebration of engineering excellence, honoring projects worldwide that demonstrate innovation, creative problem-solving, and engineering's unique ability to improve our world. The competition provides visibility for the firm, the design team, the client and the project. The top winners at the state level proceed to the national competition administered by the American Council of Engineering Companies in Washington, DC, where they will compete for, among other awards, the coveted national Grand Conceptor Award. Gold ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence Award winners:

The Crescent Street Over Millers River Bridge sits within feet of the L.S. Starrett Company, the leading employer in Athol, MA. This bridge is woven into Starrett's operation so its replacement was vital to its continued success.
- Simpson Gumpertz & Heger for the MBTA Tunnel Investigation for the MBTA. A partial collapse at the Government Center Garage in downtown Boston, MA involved three concrete beams and a construction vehicle impacting the ground directly over the MBTA's Green Line in the Haymarket Tunnel. SGH responded quickly and creatively with a pragmatic approach, leveraging field observations, analyses of varying complexity, and proof testing to give the MBTA confidence that it was safe to resume the Green Line train service.
- TEC, Inc. for the Pavilion at Riverwalk for Lupoli Companies. The Pavilion at Riverwalk is an innovative project that solved difficult development and technical challenges. It is a sustainable development, improving flood resilience and improving the cleanliness of stormwater.
- Weston & Sampson for the Winona Pond Water Treatment Plant Upgrades for the City of Peabody Department of Public Services. Weston & Sampson partnered with the City of Peabody to transform their 50-year-old Winona Water Treatment Plant into a contemporary facility that provides consumers with high quality water at rates among the lowest in the region.
