At the Venture Development Center (VDC) at UMass Boston, we're offering a unique opportunity to secure subsidized wet lab space for just $25/sq ft, available from August 1st, 2024.
Since 2009, the VDC has been home to over 100 successful Life Sciences startups, and we're committed to supporting your innovation journey. Our state-of-the-art facilities are designed to meet the needs of growing biotech companies, providing not just space, but also a thriving community of like-minded innovators.

Lab Unit Features
Membership of the VDC brings a bouquet of unrivalled benefits to those that are accepted are provided with access to all core facilities and advanced equipment on-campus, along with access to many types of advanced university engineering and life science instruments including an animal facility.

Lab Unit Features
- Exclusive use of Wet Lab #3 (380 sq ft), which includes ten mobile benches, five task chairs, Mott laboratory fume hood with flammable liquid storage cabinet, Baker biosafety cabinet Class II Type B2, Thermo Scientific™ Forma™ Steri-Cycle™ i160 Tri-Gas CO2 Incubator, Sorvall Legend X1R Centrifuge, VWR® Built-In Undercounter Laboratory Freezer, and VWR® Built-In Undercounter Laboratory Refrigerator;
- Services to the wet laboratory include Siemens RO/DI laboratory water system, autoclave, flake ice, and complete safety training, chemical and biological waste pick-up, and fume hood and biosafety cabinet testing.
- Shared use of Common Areas that include a print area, kitchenette, lounge, open work area, Conference and Board Rooms and terrace .
- Shared use of equipment: 48 Core, 384 GB RAM, 3 node shared-memory Linux server with 6 TB storage ;Thermo Scientific Revco -80 freezer.
- Other included services are online library access; server rack space, with UPS; shared copy, scan and fax equipment; wireless and wired Internet service; and digital telephone with voice mail.
- Provides access to all core facilities and advanced equipment on-campus which are eligible for innovation voucher subsidies for research and equipment
- Secured 24-hour access to office space, mailboxes; Parking, Public Transportation / UMass Boston Shuttle buses, Food Court, and Health Center.
