However, residents can now dive back into the refreshing waters as the pool reopened on Wednesday.
To celebrate the reopening, an Open House will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event will not only provide visitors with information about upcoming programming but also introduce them to the new Pool Manager, Andres Ramirez.
The repairs done at BCYF Draper Pool were extensive and included replacing boilers, ventilation and filtration systems, repairing the pool shell, deep cleaning the pool house, landscaping, repairing tile, installing new steps and ladders, and replacing the surge tank.
Mayor Wu has taken swift action to address issues with several city-owned pools that were built in the 1970s. Through a collaboration between Boston Public Schools, Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), Public Facilities Department and Property Management Department, along with investments of City funding and improved facilities assessment, projects are currently underway at multiple city pools. In fact, Mayor Wu allocated $54.5 million in this fiscal year's capital plan for repairing and renovating all of Boston's pools by FY25-FY29.
