Boston: Boylston Street Construction Advisory

Trending...
~ Boston, MA - The City of Boston has announced plans to remove the dedicated bus lane on Boylston Street in order to ensure the safety and functionality of the roadway for all users. The construction work is set to begin on Tuesday night (March 18) and will primarily take place during overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts.

According to the city, this project is scheduled to be completed before the upcoming Boston Marathon and will not affect the event. The construction schedule is as follows: work hours will be from 7 PM to 5 AM, with crews starting on Tuesday night by milling the road and removing the top two inches of the surface/bus lane. On Wednesday night, they will finish any remaining milling work.

The final phase of resurfacing will take place on Friday night into Saturday morning. However, before any striping can be done on the new surface, it must have time to cure. This means that crews will begin laying out and striping revised lane markings as early as March 27th. Additionally, in early April, the Boston Transportation Department (BTD) will add new signage and a curb use plan that includes new parking meters.

It should be noted that all work is weather-permitting and there may be delays due to cold temperatures or precipitation. The city urges drivers to plan accordingly and use alternate routes if possible during construction. The removal of the dedicated bus lane is part of ongoing efforts by the city to improve safety and accessibility for all users on Boylston Street.
