~ Boston City Council Declares January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

In a unanimous decision, the Boston City Council has adopted a resolution declaring January 2025 as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. This observance, first declared by former President Barack Obama in 2010, aims to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery.

Human trafficking encompasses various forms of exploitation, including forced labor and sex trafficking. It also includes involuntary servitude, peonage, and debt bondage. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and advocacy organizations, human trafficking remains a pervasive issue due to limited public awareness, underreporting, and challenges posed by technology and instability caused by natural disasters and conflicts.
