~ Boston, MA- As Barbados celebrates its 58th Independence Day, the city of Boston takes a moment to reflect on the significant contributions of the Bajan community. With a rich history, vibrant culture, and unwavering resilience, this community has become an integral part of Boston's diverse fabric.
From the arts to politics, business to sports, Barbadians have made their mark in every aspect of Boston's society. Their influence has not only contributed to the city's growth but has also helped shape its unique identity.
As November 30th, 2024 marks the 58th anniversary of Barbados' independence, it is a milestone for both the island and its people. In Massachusetts alone, there are 4,704 foreign-born Barbadians, with nearly 2,600 calling Boston their home.

To commemorate this special occasion, the Council has directed the Property Management Department to raise the Barbados flag over City Hall Plaza. On November 29th, 2024, the flag will fly proudly on the third flagpole as a symbol of Boston's recognition and appreciation for this vibrant community's lasting impact.
The Council hopes that this gesture will not only honor Barbados' independence but also serve as a reminder of the strong bond between Boston and its Bajan residents. The city looks forward to continuing to celebrate and embrace their culture for years to come.
