Boston: Chemist Applications Available On Fire Prevention Portal Starting October 1, 2023

Trending...
~ Starting October 1, 2023, the City of Boston Fire Prevention Portal will be offering applications for Flame Certifications. The fees and requirements are the same, however each application is limited to two items. This allows for the permit to print out accurately.

The City of Boston requires a minimum of 10 business days (not including weekends or holidays) to process applications. If a sample is required, applicants have 10 days to submit it to the Departmental Chemist. An additional five days of processing time should be expected after receipt of the sample. All samples with the CHM# on it should be mailed/delivered to:

Applicants will receive an automatic email when their application has been accepted for intake and available for payment. Payment must be received before their application can be forwarded to the Departmental Chemist for review. Once payment is received, their application will be forwarded to the Department Chemist who will review it, test any samples if required and approve or deny it. Applicants will receive email notification at any of these milestones and when their application is finalized they will have the ability to print out their permit.

If applicants do not receive a confirmation that their application has been accepted they should check their SPAM folder or contact BFDChemist@boston.gov or call 617-343-3628 for assistance. Those who already have an account on the City of Boston Portal do not need to register again.
