Boston: Cummins Highway Construction Update: November 21, 2024

Trending...
~ Construction on the Cummins Highway project is progressing ahead of schedule, according to a recent update from McCourt Construction. The project, which broke ground in March, has made significant progress in the 2024 construction season and is now entering its final stages.

As the 2024 construction season comes to a close, roadway work will be limited. However, McCourt Construction plans to continue working through the winter months, weather permitting. This will include installing conduit, street lighting, and drainage structures.

The company has made it a priority to ensure resident safety and minimize disruptions to the neighborhood throughout the construction process. To date, several key milestones have been achieved in 2024. These include excavating and removing the center median trolley tracks, ties, concrete base, and cobblestones from Woodhaven Street to Wood Avenue/Harvard Street.

In addition, drainage structures have been installed from Bismark/Brockton to Rugby/Savannah. Eversource has also played a crucial role in the project by rehabilitating infrastructure for high voltage lines and transmission vaults to ensure their safety and longevity.

To accommodate these construction activities, on-street parking will be restricted from Harvard Street/Wood Avenue to Woodhaven. However, full access and egress to residential and business driveways will be maintained.

The project has also taken measures to protect trees lining the roadway from any potential damage during construction. As winter approaches, pavement markings will be refreshed for better visibility and safety.

In addition to these updates on the progress of the project itself, it was also announced that a rodent management plan is in place as part of the contract for the Cummins Highway Reconstruction Project. This plan aims to mitigate any rodent activity in-and-around the neighborhood.

Residents can expect to see pieces of construction equipment along the roadway as work continues through the winter months. The work hours for this project remain 7:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m, but it is important to note that the nature of construction work is weather dependent.

Overall, the Cummins Highway project is on track to be completed within the expected timeline, thanks to the hard work and dedication of McCourt Construction. The company remains committed to completing the project in a timely and efficient manner while prioritizing resident safety and minimizing disruptions to the neighborhood.
