~ Boston, MA- As Memorial Day approaches, the city of Boston is preparing to honor and remember the more than one million American military personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. military. This national holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, also serves as a time to recognize and pay tribute to the families of these fallen soldiers.
The city has planned a number of events to commemorate Memorial Day, with one of the most prominent being the annual flag garden in Boston Common. Tens of thousands of American flags will be placed in this iconic park to honor and remember those who have given their lives for their country, dating back to the Revolutionary War.

In addition to the flag garden, other events include wreath laying ceremonies at two significant memorials: the South Boston Vietnam Veterans Memorial (Medal of Honor Park) and the Puerto Rican Veterans Memorial in the South End. These ceremonies serve as a way for the community to come together and pay their respects.
Despite current circumstances, Boston's Veterans Services and veteran organizations are still finding ways to safely place flags at military cemeteries throughout the city. This week, in recognition of Memorial Day, the City Council adopted a resolution to honor and remember those who have made sacrifices for our country.
As we approach this important holiday, let us take a moment to reflect on and express gratitude for those who have given their lives in service to our nation.
