~ Boston City Council to Honor Dominican Culture with Designation of Cultural Day

In a move to celebrate and recognize the vibrant Dominican community in Boston, the City Council will officially designate August 15 as Dominican Cultural Day later this month. This special day will honor the 162nd anniversary of the Dominican Republic's Restoration of Independence.

As Boston's second-largest Latino and immigrant population, the Dominican community has made significant contributions to the city's growth in various areas such as business, politics, sports, and education. Their cultural influence can be seen throughout the city through music, dance, art, and civic leadership.

The resolution for this designation was sponsored by Councilors Mejia and Santana, both of whom have Dominican heritage. As part of the celebration, a ceremonial flag-raising of the Dominican Republic flag will take place at City Hall Plaza.
