~ Deron Jackson, HRIS Manager in the Office of Human Resources, has been working for the City for almost 13 years. He started as an intern in 2007 and has been a full-time employee since 2010. Deron is a problem solver at heart and his favorite part about working for the City is effecting change with things that aren't flashy or forward facing.
When asked what the best piece of advice he has ever received was, Deron said it was to be a leader and not a follower, something his father told him at a young age. His advice to others is to never say they can't do something, because something may come in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.
Outside of work Deron enjoys collecting sneakers (Nike/Jordan, Adidas and limited edition Crocs), playing video games with his college and high school friends and building computers. He also likes to spend time with his family cooking out at the family house or going on trips to the mall.

When asked to describe himself in three words he chose reserved, strong and accommodating. His favorite snack is a half-dozen chocolate chip cookie from the ChipYard in Quincy Market which he tries to make a stop there once a month so he doesn't burn himself out. He prefers moon over sun and what keeps him motivated at work is knowing that the work is always evolving and always changing so being part of moving things forward while seeing new things ahead keeps the job fresh.
The hardest interview question Deron has ever had was why should we hire you for this position? But now that he knows his professional self it's nothing to him when he gets asked that. His inspirational quotes are "Desire's most natural endpoint is consumption" (unknown) and "The secret to all victory lies in the organization of the non-obvious" by Marcus Aurelius. When taking the Harry Potter quiz Deron was sorted into Ravenclaw but he isn't big into Harry Potter outside of Harry Potter World at Universal Studios so he will have to ask his best friend who is into all things Harry Potter if she thinks it makes sense where he ended up.
