Wednesday, June 4, 2025 ~ Boston, MA - Mayor Michelle Wu, along with the City of Boston's Property Management Department, Scobie's Café & Bar owner Anne Lydon, and members of the community gathered today to celebrate the grand opening of Scobie's newest location at City Hall. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the family-run small business' second location, which was selected through a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process.
Scobie's was chosen for its advantageous business model and alignment with the City's goals to support local businesses and expand economic opportunity. Co-owned by Anne and John Lydon, Scobie's first opened its doors in Dorchester's Adams Village in September 2024. The café has since become a beloved gathering spot for residents and families, blending the Lydons' family roots between Dorchester and Ireland.
"We are thrilled to welcome Scobie's to City Hall," said Mayor Michelle Wu. "Their presence here will not only add to the vibrancy of our community but also support our efforts to make Boston a home for everyone and expand opportunities across our neighborhoods."

The new City Hall location will operate as an extension of Scobie's established Dorchester location, offering residents a space for community, programming, music, and food. The café aims to provide healthy, in-house made items sourced from local vendors in a fast and efficient manner that complements the hustle and bustle of City Hall. It will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"We are honored to be selected to open a location in City Hall and represent Dorchester," said Anne Lydon. "Our hope is that it becomes a welcoming hub where we can share a cup and become part of the daily rhythm of City Hall."
District 3 City Councilor John Fitzgerald expressed his excitement about showcasing one of his district's local small businesses at City Hall. "I look forward to all of my colleagues getting a taste of some of the greatest coffee and breakfast our district has to offer," he said.

The café is an active member of the Dorchester community, sourcing from various local vendors, many of whom are within walking distance of their location.

With its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to serving the needs of its community, Scobie's is sure to become a beloved addition to this historic building.
