Trending...
~ Boston, MA - Mayor Michelle Wu proudly announced the opening of the fifth park in Boston this summer, thanks to the hard work of the Parks Department. The newly renovated McGann Playground is a testament to the city's commitment to creating vibrant and inclusive spaces for its residents.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Wu expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in revitalizing this community space. "Spaces like this are what make Boston feel like home," she said. She also thanked the residents for their input and support throughout the project.

The McGann Playground now boasts colorful new play equipment for children aged 2-5 and 5-12, a splash pad, swing set, and a trike track. The renovation also included a new fence and gate, benches and picnic tables, a drinking fountain with a water bottle filler, and a dog waste disposable bag station.

The design of the playground was done by G2 Collaborative, while Fleming Bros Inc. handled the construction. The project budget included $80,000 for design and $941,000 for construction.

According to Boston Parks Commissioner Ryan Woods, these investments reflect the city's commitment to activating its parks and creating inclusive spaces for all ages. He also expressed his gratitude to the residents who participated in community meetings and surveys to provide valuable feedback. Special mention was given to students from Sumner Elementary who helped choose their favorite play equipment during in-person design meetings at the park.

The design and development of McGann Playground were heavily influenced by community feedback gathered through public meetings and surveys starting in summer 2021. Residents shared ideas such as having a dog waste bag station to keep the lawn area clean for picnics and play.
