~ Dorchester native, Ryan Woods, has been a dedicated public servant for the City of Boston for 24 years. His journey began with the summer jobs program in the Boston Parks Department, where he taught young residents the fundamentals of baseball.
Over the years, Woods has held various positions within the city government. In 2009, he was appointed as the Director of Programming, responsible for managing budgets and planning events such as concerts, tree lightings, and other community gatherings. In 2014, he took on the role of Director of External Affairs, serving as a spokesperson for the parks system and leading fundraising efforts for over 700 annual park events.
In 2018, Woods was promoted to Deputy Commissioner and oversaw 721 park events while also playing a key role in selecting vendors for mobile vending, Swan Boats, and Frog Pond operations. In 2019, under Mayor Walsh's administration, Woods was appointed as Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. Since then, he has implemented innovative virtual programming during the pandemic and invested in improving park cleanliness and accessibility.

During his time as Commissioner, Woods has gained immense respect from his colleagues and community members alike. In a recent statement to the press, he expressed his gratitude for their support and assured them that he will still be available to answer any questions they may have. He also mentioned his upcoming involvement in organizing the annual tree lighting on December 5 at Boston Common.
The City Council also recognized Woods' contributions by adopting a resolution declaring October 18th as "Ryan Woods Day" in Boston. This gesture serves as a testament to his hard work and dedication towards making Boston's parks more vibrant and inclusive spaces for all residents to enjoy.
