~ Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) has announced an exciting opportunity for Boston students and schools to participate in the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee program through the 17th Annual BCYF Spelling Bee. This annual event, which aims to improve students' spelling skills and expand their vocabulary, also provides valuable experience in developing self-confidence – a crucial skill for success in public speaking and performing arts.

The BCYF Spelling Bee is open to all Boston students from public, charter, pilot, and parochial schools, as well as home-schooled students. However, participation is only possible after winning a school-level bee held at a Boston school. This year's event will take place in the spring.

To get involved in this exciting opportunity, schools must first register with Scripps National Spelling Bee online by December 31, 2024 at www.spellingbee.com/enrollment. This registration will also serve as their registration for the BCYF Spelling Bee. Schools can save money by opting into Early Enrollment by October 31, 2024. Additionally, there is an enrollment fee of $185 that must be paid to Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Participating schools must hold their own spelling bee on or before Friday, February 28, 2025. The winner's name and bio form must then be submitted to BCYF by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025. The final step is to cheer on the school's representative speller at the 17th Annual BCYF Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 15, 2025!

There are numerous benefits of participating in the BCYF Spelling Bee. Schools will have exclusive online access to the teachers-only section of spellingbee.com and receive official pronouncer guides for use in conducting classroom and school bees. They will also have access to The Great Words, Great Works reading list, which includes all source books organized by reading level. Additionally, there are supplemental vocabulary materials available for classroom and school levels. Schools will also receive customizable certificates for participants and the school champion.

As an added bonus, schools that enroll before September 30 will receive a one-year subscription to Britannica Online for kids to award to a participant in their school bee program. Those who enroll before this date will receive two subscriptions.
