Boston: Summer EBT is Now Live!

Trending...
~ The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is set to launch a new program that will provide eligible families with $120 per school-aged child for groceries during the summer. This initiative, known as Summer EBT, is made possible by the leadership of Governor Healey and funding from the US Department of Agriculture.

Summer EBT will be available to families who receive SNAP benefits, certain MassHealth coverage, DTA cash assistance, and those with foster children. Most eligible families will be automatically enrolled in the program and do not need to apply.

According to DTA, families with school-aged children are encouraged to learn more about their eligibility for this program. The criteria for qualification are based on income and other factors. Frequently asked questions about Summer EBT can be found in multiple languages on the DTA website.

In mid-July, DTA began notifying families who will automatically receive Summer EBT benefits on July 25th through mail and text messages. Families who are actively receiving SNAP benefits should have received a notice and will see the funds added to their EBT card on July 25th.

For families who do not actively receive SNAP benefits but were automatically enrolled in Summer EBT through other qualifications, a white Summer EBT card will be mailed to their home during the last week of July.

If a family does not receive SNAP benefits but believes they may be eligible for Summer EBT, they are encouraged to apply through DTAconnect.odhhs.mass.gov. However, if they did not receive a text or notice from DTA by July 20th, they should urgently check or update their mailing address by calling the Summer EBT hotline at 855-425-8770. The Summer EBT card will be sent to the address on file.

Organizations that work with families in Boston are also being called upon to help spread awareness about Summer EBT by sharing flyers available in multiple languages through both the Office of Food and Jobs (OFJ) and DTA.

For any additional questions, the Summer EBT hotline is available at 855-425-8770.

This new program aims to provide much-needed support to families during the summer months when children are out of school and may not have access to free or reduced-price meals. With Governor Healey's leadership and the collaboration of DTA, Summer EBT will help alleviate food insecurity for eligible families in Massachusetts.
