~ As the countdown to the new year begins, Downtown Boston is gearing up for its annual First Night festivities. However, with the influx of people expected to attend, there will be some changes to traffic and parking in the area.
According to the MBTA, people planning to celebrate in the city are strongly advised not to drive. Instead, they are encouraged to utilize public transportation or other alternative modes of transportation. To make it easier for revelers, the MBTA will not be collecting fares after 8:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve. The subway, bus, and commuter rail will also be operating on a regular weekday schedule with increased subway service after 3 p.m. Riders can find updated holiday schedules on mbta.com/holidays and are advised to purchase round-trip tickets for a faster return trip.
For those looking for a more active way to get around, Bluebikes – the regional bike share service – is also available and can be accessed through bluebikes.com. Additionally, walking is always a great option for navigating through the festivities.
