~ The City of Boston has announced that the Boston School Committee Nominating Panel is now accepting applications for three four-year terms on the Boston School Committee. The Nominating Panel, which is made up of thirteen members representing various sectors such as parents, educators, and business and higher education communities, will be responsible for selecting the new committee members.
According to the press release issued by the city, two current members' terms are set to expire in January 2026, prompting the start of the Nominating Panel process this fall. The selected candidates will begin their terms on January 1, 2026 and serve until January 7, 2030. Additionally, applications are also being accepted for a third vacancy that will occur when Michael O'Neill steps down from his position as Vice-Chair at the end of December. This term will expire on January 2, 2029.
Interested individuals must submit their applications by Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. The application can be found on the city's website. Virtual interviews will be conducted in the early evening on November 18-20. Candidates must be residents of Boston and should be prepared for a significant time commitment as serving on the School Committee involves connecting with school departments and leaders and attending biweekly meetings that often run late into the evening.
