~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, along with the Commission on Persons with Disabilities and the Disability Advisory Board, have announced the upcoming annual Disability Community Forum. The event is set to take place on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Suffolk University Law School. This year's forum will be open to the public with hybrid attendance options available for both in-person and virtual participation via Zoom. Those interested in attending can register for the event at boston.gov/disability-forum.
Mayor Wu expressed her commitment to making Boston a welcoming home for all residents, including those with disabilities. She stated that the Disability Community Forum is an important platform for residents to shape ongoing efforts, provide feedback, and build community. She encouraged everyone to attend and help inform the city's work towards inclusivity and accessibility.
The forum will feature a presentation from Kristen McCosh, ADA Title II Coordinator and Disability Commissioner for the Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities. McCosh will share the Commission and Board's Annual Report before opening up the floor for public comment from Boston residents. There will also be a Q&A session with Commissioner McCosh and members of the Disability Advisory Board. This event aims to give Boston's disability community a voice in shaping city services, providing feedback on initiatives across neighborhoods, and asking questions to various city departments. Residents are encouraged to submit their questions and comments in advance through the registration form on boston.gov/disability-forum.

Commissioner McCosh emphasized the importance of this forum as a direct way for people with disabilities to connect with city officials. She stated that while Boston works hard towards accessibility and inclusivity, it is crucial to hear directly from those impacted by these efforts. She urged all members of the disability community to attend this year's forum and share their priorities for accessibility and inclusion in Boston.
Last year's forum saw over 100 attendees both in-person and virtually, with discussions on issues such as accessible housing, transportation, sidewalk safety, and disability discrimination. The insights gained from the disability community have helped city officials improve planning for increased accessibility and inclusion in all areas of Boston.
Jerry Boyd, Chair of the City of Boston Disability Advisory Board, expressed the board's excitement for the upcoming forum. He stated that it is a direct way to hear from the community and highlight accessibility work while also receiving feedback on issues directly impacting disabled residents, commuters, and visitors to Boston.
