Changes Effective October 1; 'Early Bird' Pricing Currently Available
BEDFORD, Mass. - BostonChron -- Important changes to the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes and guidelines for FY 2023 become effective October 1, 2022. Libman Education's code update training will be available starting July 11 – well ahead of the effective date – for teams and individuals to proactively prepare for the changes.
"It is essential that we give our coders enough time to really master the updates: what changed, what it means, and how to apply it. Even the smallest change to a code or guideline is still a change that can result in a denied claim," said Lynn Kuehn, MS, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA, nationally-recognized ICD-10 coding expert and author of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Code Updates for FY 2023.
There is plenty in this year's updates for coders to master. Changes to ICD-10-CM for FY 2023 include 38 different concepts. Changes to ICD-10-PCS for FY 2023 include 331 new codes and 64 deleted codes. These new codes cover many important additions for surgical procedures, important testing procedures, imaging studies, and new technology. There are also additions and changes to the guidelines.

"As coders, we take seriously the important role we play in capturing critical health data," said Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P, nationally-recognized CPT coding expert and author of the CPT Code Updates for 2023. "Consistency and completeness of data are possible only if coders understand what changes were made to the coding system. Our organizations depend on us to get it right."
Purchasers can gain access to the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Code Updates for FY 2023 starting July 11 and will retain access well beyond the October 1 implementation date to ensure they can still refer to the updates as they start working with the FY 2023 code set. CPT Code Updates for 2023 will be available in November.
