Global Learning Charter Public School Students Veronika Horsky and Ivette Terrero attended the program.
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - BostonChron -- Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS), a tuition-free public charter school that currently services 500 students in grades 5-12, recently sponsored students Veronika Horsky and Ivette Terrero at the Brown University Leadership Institute.
Horsky attended "Lessons in Leadership: How the World Changes" and Terrero attended "One True Pairing: The Courtship Plot from Jane Austen to Jane the Virgin." Both courses included readings, assignments, independent study and discussions.
Horsky said that after completing a Capstone project at GLCPS concerning marginalized identities and misinformation her research led her to define social change. The Leadership Institute offered a learning philosophy that encouraged taking action and becoming her own version of a leader. "While I came to the course with excitement to participate in Ivy League level academics, I left as a better public speaker and student," said Horsky. "For the rest of the school year, I plan to take the action plan I created at Brown and turn it into a reality. I will continue to tutor students and spread awareness of the issue I studied; the school to prison pipeline."

Terrero said that the program taught her how to analyze specific texts, movies, tv episodes and how they correlate with each other. "Through the program I learned how to be more responsible, developed my social skills and learn to be more independent," she said. "I am glad I participated because I was able to learn many different things as well as meet many different people from all around the world"
"We congratulate Veronika and Ivette for their successful completion of this challenging program," said Stephen Furtado Jr., Executive Director of GLCPS. "Both students felt the program changed their perspectives and offered them the positive experience of life on campus. Veronika and Ivette will bring their new knowledge and experience back to share with their classmates. We are pleased to be able to offer these opportunities to our students."
