The Grammy, Latin Grammy, and Juno Award-winning Cuban-Canadian artist draws from his Afro-Latino Roots to transform sorrow into beauty
LOS ANGELES - BostonChron -- Grammy Award winning Cuban-Canadian artist, Alex Cuba, has announced the release of his 11th studio album, Índole, set for release on November 7, 2025.
"Índole honours my afro-latin roots, and pays deep respects to the African diaspora and its infinite contributions to what is perceived and understood today as Latin Music all over the world. Índole in Spanish means nature, character, and the natural inclination of a person. I give thanks to my ancestors who have inspired these songs of joy and transformation. May this music make your souls dance, and your hearts sing." - Alex Cuba
Throughout his decades-long, critically triumphant career, GRAMMY Award-winning Cuban-Canadian artist, Alex Cuba, has masterfully united the worlds of sound and emotion to create timeless, vibrant music rooted in joy and positivity. On Índole, meaning the true nature of things, Cuba ventures into new emotional territory, embracing sorrow as a creative force. Drawing inspiration from the vast African influence on the colourful tapestry of Latin music, Cuba's Índole looks both inward and toward his heritage to create a body of work that paves his path back to joy in melody and lyric.
Continuing his tradition of uniting genres, continents, and experimentation under one sound, on Índole, Cuba offers cross-border collaborations that are distinct yet seamlessly united by his boundless creativity. Following the creative breakthrough of his 2021 album Mendó, where Cuba played every instrument himself, this new chapter sees him fully embracing what he calls "absolute creative control." "It's fascinating to feel that you can go to the studio, record everything yourself, and do it until it sounds exactly as you want," says Cuba. "That realization gave me power and reminded me why I fell in love with making music."
Rich in texture, tone, and rhythmic variety, the twelve tracks on Índole feature the soul and sophistication Cuba is known for, wrapped in the African influence on Latin music. Opening with "Espíritu Temba" (Old Man Soul), Cuba is joined by renowned Cuban percussionist and vocalist Roberto Vizcaíno Jr. on a percussive tribute to Afro-Cuban rhythms, a sound also featured in the expansive, horn-filled "Tiempo Para Vivir" (Time for Living), where Cuba reunites with GRAMMY winner Joaquin Betancourt and puts positivity at the forefront of life.

The Afro-Colombian influence glistens on "Nada es de Verdad" (Nothing Is Real), as Cuba joins Colombian tropi-pop giants Bacilos for an upbeat invitation to not take life too seriously, as it does on "Te Llevo Adentro" (I Carry You Within), a groove-filled love song featuring Colombian Vallenato master Chabuco. "Para Contarte Este Amor" (To Tell You This Love) weaves Afro-Peruvian elements into the upbeat and percussive, jazz-filled track.
The simplicity of lead single, "Palabras Vacías" (Hollow Words), blends breezy, island-inspired ease with a twist of Country that once made him hesitant to record it. "I had to live 27 years of a multicultural life to even think that a song like this could be mine," marvels Cuba. Now, it stands as a statement of strength, proof that restraint can be as powerful as grandeur.
With Índole, Alex Cuba continues to bridge continents, cultures, and emotions, bringing the rhythms of the Afro-Latin diaspora to the forefront of a project devoted to finding light in the dark. As he steps further into his creative freedom, his rare vulnerability infuses new meaning into his universal language of positivity and hope. Transforming pain into purpose, Índole captures the true nature of an artist unafraid to evolve. One whose music continues to reveal beauty in every corner of the human experience.
