In partnership with its Board of Directors, the nonprofit and climate leader will set the vision for the climatetech incubator's next chapter
SOMERVILLE, Mass. and HOUSTON, Feb. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of a successful $4 million funding round and introduction of its new Board of Directors, Greentown Labs today announced Georgina Campbell Flatter as the organization's incoming Chief Executive Officer. Flatter brings an exceptional blend of nonprofit executive leadership, entrepreneurial experience in the climate and energy industries dating back to Greentown's inception, and a strong technical background. She has a proven track record of developing and scaling impactful global programs at the intersection of climate and energy innovation, and entrepreneurship and social impact. Flatter will transition to Greentown from her role as Co-founder and Executive Director of TomorrowNow.org, a global nonprofit pioneering innovative approaches to connect next-generation weather and climate technologies with vulnerable communities on the frontlines of climate change.
Flatter spun TomorrowNow out of tomorrow.io, a Boston-based pioneer in AI-powered weather intelligence and satellite technology. Under her leadership, the organization secured millions in climate philanthropy from major partners including the Gates Foundation, enabling it to deliver cutting-edge climate solutions to five million African farmers weekly.
Flatter will collaborate closely with Kevin Dutt, Greentown's Interim CEO to ensure a seamless leadership transition. She will also continue to serve on Greentown's Board of Directors.
"It's rare to find an individual who has impressive climate and energy expertise along with nonprofit and entrepreneurial leadership—we're fortunate Georgie brings all of this and more to Greentown Labs," said Bobby Tudor, Greentown Labs Board Chair and Chairman of The Houston Energy Transition Initiative. "On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to welcome Georgie as our next CEO and I am eager to see all that Greentown will accomplish under her leadership. Since Greentown's expansion to Houston in 2021, we've seen the power of its role in our ecosystem and we're proud to have Georgie leading Greentown's next chapter."

Prior to founding TomorrowNow.org, Flatter spent a decade at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she was a senior lecturer and led global initiatives at the intersection of technology and social impact. She spearheaded and influenced innovation programs for organizations such as the MIT Legatum Center, the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, the MIT Climate & Energy Prize, MIT REAP, XPRIZE Foundation, the World Bank, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Her hands-on research experience includes work at the Langer Lab and Sun Catalytix, an MIT - ARPA-E funded spin-out, focused on energy storage solutions inspired by natural photosynthesis. An Acumen Rockefeller Global Food Systems Fellow, Flatter is dedicated to driving transformational change at the nexus of energy, climate, and community resilience.
"We are at a transformational moment in the energy transition, with an unprecedented opportunity to drive solutions in energy production, sustainability, and climate resilience," said Flatter. "Greentown Labs is, and has always been, a home for entrepreneurs and a powerhouse of collaboration and innovation. In this next chapter, I'm excited to build on our entrepreneurial roots and the strength of our ever-growing communities in Boston and Houston. Together, we will unite entrepreneurs, partners, and resources to tackle frontier challenges and scale breakthrough technologies."
Flatter was deeply engaged with Greentown when it was born out of the MIT ecosystem in 2011. Since then, it has grown to be the largest climatetech startup incubator in North America and will soon welcome its 600th member company.
"The roots of Greentown's creation is entrepreneurship, built by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, and there's no one better to take this organization to the next level than Georgina," said Bill Aulet, Ethernet Inventors Professor of the Practice of Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan; and Managing Director of the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. "I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Georgie for over thirteen years. Her leadership, business, technical, policy, stakeholder management and organizational skills and experience coupled with her deep commitment to climate and energy and long history with this community not just in Boston but globally make this a match that had to happen. We could not be more pleased she has accepted this challenge especially at this critical time."
"Over the past 13 years Greentown has become the leading climatetech incubator supporting hundreds of entrepreneurs, making thousands of connections, and inspiring so many to get involved in this critical industry," said Jason Hanna, Co-founder of Greentown Labs; Head of Product, Edge AI at Analog Devices. "We're thrilled to have Georgie—a fellow climate entrepreneur and nonprofit leader—taking the reins as Greentown seeks to expand its impact in its second decade. Georgie was with us at the very beginning and we're excited to see where she'll take us next."
