Mayor Michelle Wu Announces City of Boston's Lift Every Voice Event Celebrating Black History

Trending...
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced that the city will be hosting a family-friendly intergenerational Black History Month celebration this Sunday, February 23rd. The event, titled "Lift Every Voice," will take place from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Strand Theatre and is being held in collaboration with various city departments, as well as the Greater Boston Central Labor Council, IATSE Local 11, and the A. Philip Randolph Institute.

According to Mayor Wu, this event is a way to honor and recognize the foundational contributions of Boston's Black communities to the city's fabric. She expressed her gratitude for the collaboration with different agencies and partners in hosting this marquee event and encouraged all residents, families, and visitors to attend for an afternoon of reflection and engagement.

The theme for this year's Black History Month is "African Americans and Labor," and the event will feature a variety of music, dance, and spoken word performances that aim to uplift this theme. These performances will provide an opportunity for community members to reflect on and engage with each other about the pivotal role that African American labor has played in shaping local, regional, and national history.
