Breaking Boundaries: How PGR's Genre-Bending Approach is Revolutionizing Independent Music Marketing
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - BostonChron -- In just 18 months, Poly-Groove Records (PGR) has become a rising force in independent music, delivering groove-driven sounds across New England and beyond. Emerging from Polyphonic Studios' production department and the Midnight Groove Recordings imprint—founded by Mwalim in 1989—PGR launched in 2022 with a mission to cultivate the 'THUMP & SOUL' movement.
Leading the charge is PGR President Raeha Ramos, who took the helm in July 2024. With a background in law, sports marketing, and artist management, she is set to drive the label's next phase of innovation. "Poly-Groove Records is more than just a label; it's a movement," says Ramos. "We're building a home for artists who push boundaries, blending genres and cultures to create something truly unique."
PGR's diverse roster includes The GroovaLottos (soul-funk and Afrobeat), The ZYG 808 (alternative hip-hop and Afro Punk), Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor (soul blues and jazz), and WAMPTRONICA (house music, rare groove, and Afrobeat). The label also supports emerging acts like Bishop the Shadowman (alternative rock) and collaborates with regional legends such as Navalle "Chops" Turner and the Sagamore Horns.

"Our motto is simple—'The Sound of a Good Time,'" says PGR founder Mwalim. "We create music that moves people, physically and spiritually, bringing communities together through house beats, funk grooves, and jazz riffs."
Beyond artist development, PGR is at the forefront of the THUMP & SOUL movement, blending deep rhythms, live instrumentation, and DJ culture to redefine New England's music scene. Through live shows, pop-ups, and venue partnerships, the label is amplifying independent, groove-based music in the region.
"As we move forward, our focus is not just on great music but on elevating independent artists in innovative ways," adds Ramos. "We're redefining what an independent label can be, creating opportunities that allow our artists to thrive on their own terms."
With a growing catalog and a dedicated audience, Poly-Groove Records is proving that the future of music is as much about movement as it is about melody.
