Director McDonough emphasizes that Boston's strength lies in its diverse voices, experiences, and ideas from constituents in every neighborhood. He urges passionate individuals who are eager to make a difference and shape the city's future to apply for SPARK Boston. He believes that this is an opportunity for young leaders from all corners of Boston to come together, collaborate with one another and create a city that works for everyone.

Previous council members have come from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds including public service, media, higher education, and scientific research. The council meets on the first Monday of each month and members are encouraged to attend at least one community meeting and one SPARK event or subcommittee meeting per month. Applicants must reside in Boston and be willing to commit 15 hours monthly to the SPARK Boston program. The council, which has been serving young adults and the City of Boston for over 18 years, is now looking for new members to continue its legacy.

The current 2025-2026 SPARK Council will continue their work until the end of their term in August. They have already participated in several opportunities, including volunteering during the Mayor's inaugural Office Hours and the Mayor's Office of Civic Organizing's Civic Summit. They have also led and taken part in signature programming such as Neighborhood Socials, Chief Chats, and panel events in collaboration with local organizations.
