CANTON, Mass. ~ St. Joseph's/Candler Health System in Savannah, Georgia has taken a major step towards becoming a fully integrated healthcare system. The organization has implemented MEDITECH Expanse across their primary care and specialty physicians, two Emergency Departments, and soon their oncology center and infusion clinics. This will provide clinicians, patients, and staff with access to a single cloud-based patient record.

Nolan Hennessee, CIO of St. Joseph's/Candler, said that the implementation of Expanse Ambulatory was supposed to be a year-long process across three distinct groups but they were able to streamline the process and get all of their providers live in record time. The organization has been connecting patients across the region for many years and part of their approach involves looking holistically at the patient to identify any underlying health equity needs that may impact their ability to stay healthy.

Allan Kennedy, Vice President of St. Joseph's/Candler Physician Network, said that having the right technology is essential for providing patients with the best care possible. He added that having all primary care physicians, specialists, hospitalists, and ED physicians on one EHR will enable them to provide more targeted patient-centered care.

The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is one of the most highly esteemed oncology services in the state and integrating more than 50 cancer specialists was critical for success. By providing a leading cancer research center in Savannah as well as several integrated treatment centers throughout the region it brings world-class cancer care closer to home for vulnerable patients who don't want to travel when sick.

MEDITECH Expanse will make it easier for patients to manage care across all settings through a single patient portal eliminating the burden of going to multiple places and remembering various passwords while also enabling physicians in EDs or primary care visits to access information captured during those visits.

Hennessee concluded by saying that MEDITECH Expanse has allowed for an integrated enterprise-wide EHR across St. Joseph's/Candler which is not only a win for them but also for their entire community.
