NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - BostonChron -- Summate Technologies and One Surgical of Memphis TN announced an agreement with Surgical Hospital of OK to pilot Velocity, Summate's cloud-based, scan-enabled point of use surgical documentation solution. Conducted under the direction of Dr. Vytautas Ringus, MD, the pilot will leverage both Summate's patented technologies and workflows and Symmetric Health Solution's industry leading data enrichment and POU imaging to automate and simplify documentation during surgery while enabling real-time cost capture to provide cloud-based data tools to maximize operating room efficiency.
Mike Kimzey, CEO of Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma stated, "Controlling expenses and proper charge capture in the operating room is paramount for any hospital or ambulatory surgical center. Hand-written documentation can be lost, difficult to read and can contain errors. Velocity gives us full confidence accurate data is captured within OR workflow and Velocity's automation assures all data and costs are documented. Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma (SHO) is proud to be part of the Velocity pilot program. Leveraging digital innovation to advance healthcare is new to the Operating Room and fits into SHO's current practices in other departments of the hospital".

The pilot will include deployment of One Surgical's extremities line of orthopedic implants, made ScanReady for the pilot. Together they will allow SHO to more accurately track implants used from inside the sterile field, which historically has presented a large challenge to the orthopedic industry.
Allen Rasoul, CEO of One Surgical commented, "Identifying and addressing the weakest link in any process ensures consistency and efficiency. The weakest link in medical device sales operations has always been the capture of correct device information, especially in the case of non-sterile devices that are sterilized for each procedure in a tray and opened on the sterile field. The surgical team is asked to communicate and record important usage information in challenging situations. Summate has solved this problem with the Velocity solution, enabling One Surgical to have confidence in reported field usage data, thereby accurately and efficiently supporting our clinical, operational, and financial processes as a device company."

The pilot will be conducted at Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma's flagship surgery center.
"Accurate measurement and management of surgical costs typically has been a challenge for the healthcare industry due to the unique nature of the sterile field and the complex software environment present in the operating room", noted Phil Sayles, CEO of Summate Technologies. "Velocity not only brings complete cost accounting data and profit measurement tools to the OR for the first time, but also provides benefits to the clinical staff as well while providing game-changing business intelligence back to device companies. Velocity has solved a major challenge in healthcare, completing the final mile of the clinically integrated supply chain."
