Competition administration announces the dedicatee of the $20,000 competition Grand Prix
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - BostonChron -- The Administration of the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition today announced that the Competition Grand Prix, comprising a $20,000 cash prize and contingent concert engagements and management search assistance, is named the Alexei Sultanov Memorial Discovery Prize. The dedication to Sultanov was made with the blessing of Sultanov's widow, Dace, who was with Alexei through the frenzied experiences of tours after his competition wins, his meteoric rise to fame, and steadfast determination to continue performing - with one hand - after he fell ill with the malady that would take his life.

Competition Artistic Director Dr. Graciella Kowalczyk said of the announcement, "The competition would like to express its gratitude to Dace for the beautiful photographs and memories of Alexei that she shared with us. Alexei Sultanov's art takes listeners to another realm. Fortunately, I heard him perform in person a number of times. We, his audience, wept as one at the beauty as he played. Meeting and speaking with him after his performances was a highlight of my life. This prize elevates the prestige of the Nashville Competition, and the career possibilities afforded by it to the winner will be of inestimable value. Our gratitude goes to the family members of Alexei Sultanov."
Applications are currently open for participation in the October 2023 edition of the competition to be held in Nashville, TN.
