- Boston: Election Department Issues Reminders Ahead of Tuesday, November 3 State Election
~ Boston's State Election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polling locations open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Boston Election Department said. The city has recruited and trained more than 2,000 poll workers to serve across its 275 precincts.
The department advises voters to check their registration through the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website and confirm their polling location on the city's map before heading to the polls.
This year's ballot has nine questions spread across three double-sided cards. The department encourages voters to review the questions in advance and allow extra time to vote. Translations of the questions are available in 16 languages at boston.gov/ballotquestions.
To reduce the risk of tabulator jams, voters should insert one card at a time and wait for the screen to display "System Ready" before inserting the next. After inserting the third card, they should wait for the same message before leaving the machine. Poll workers and Election Department support teams will be available to assist if voting machines need attention, the department said.

All polling locations are wheelchair accessible and have an AutoMark Voter Assist Terminal for voters with disabilities. Multilingual poll workers and interpreters will also be available. Voters who need language assistance can ask a poll worker to connect them to the city's free Language Assistance Line.
Voters who have not returned mail-in or absentee ballots can place them in an official city drop box or deliver them to the Election Department at Boston City Hall, 1 City Hall Square, Room 241. In-person and drop-box ballots must arrive by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mail-in ballots cannot be returned to polling locations; they must be postmarked by Tuesday and received by the department by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to be counted. Drop-box locations and hours are listed at boston.gov/ballotdropbox.
As of Monday, Nov. 2, 15,343 Boston residents had voted early in person, and the department had received 47,309 mail-in and absentee ballots, for a combined 62,652 ballots cast before Election Day.
The department plans to publish results from mail-in and in-person early voting ballots processed in advance at City Hall between 8 and 9 p.m. Election Night. Combined Election Day and early-voting results are expected to begin appearing around 10 p.m. and will be uploaded throughout the evening as precincts report.
Residents can call 311 for Election Day assistance. More information is available at boston.gov/elections.
