WAKEFIELD, Mass. - BostonChron -- Every October we celebrate National Physical Therapy month to raise awareness about the many benefits of PT. This year's theme, "PT For Future Me," highlights physical therapy's role in enhancing movement and function in people of every age and ability. It emphasizes prevention, wellness and improving mobility and strength to support all aspects of work, life and play. It encourages Americans to see physical therapy not just as a treatment for injury, but as a lifelong strategy for moving better, aging stronger and living fully.
While many Americans worry about declining heart health, physical changes like wrinkles, or dying young, many say their greatest fear about aging is losing the ability to do the things they love. "PT For Future Me" challenges the notion that physical therapy is only for recovery. Instead, it positions PT as a core component of a proactive, comprehensive health and wellness plan, as routine and valuable as annual checkups or dental visits.
Physical therapists are movement experts who can improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education and prescribed movement. People do not need a physician's referral to see a physical therapist for evaluation and treatment in Massachusetts; MA is a Direct Access state. Direct Access means the patient has the right to choose your physical therapy provider, and it will be covered by your health insurance. After a thorough evaluation, a physical therapist will develop a plan for each person's unique needs and abilities and work with them to reach their health and wellness goals. We also work together and collaborate with other members of your health care team, to maximize your movement and empower you to be an active participant in your care.

"We usually see people wait until something goes wrong before coming to us," said Dr. Glenn D'Addario, PT, MSPT, DPT, co-founder & president of HDPT. "We're trying to flip that mindset. Physical therapy isn't just about recovery — it's about prevention, strength and longevity. We want our community to see physical therapy as a lifelong resource for moving well, feeling strong and doing the things they love at every stage of life."
Our HDPT offices in Wakefield and Burlington accept all health insurance plans, support direct access to care (no MD referrals necessary,) have two notable locations along major highways, have convenient hours that fit any schedule and always offer free injury screenings and tours.
